World culture in China

I quite agree with what cultural phenomenon of China described in Geert Hofstede Blog.

1. It is TRUE that there is a great power distance among Chinese, which means that some Chinese abuse their power and cause polarization. That is the reason why corruption occurs frequently in China. It is really a BAD thing that our government and society should highly pay attention to.

2. At the same time, the data shows that our IDV is low, which indicates that Chinese tend to be “in group” and cooperate with others. It is true and good because it always makes you feel warm. Take my family as an example; my father and my uncle and aunt, they have a meal with my grandparents at least once every week. We can share our opinion and life with each other when we have meal. I think it is a good tradition in my family. Actually, not only my family but also my friends’, they have a family day every week; they maybe shopping, hang out or do something interesting. I like that!!! That is my impression about Chinese.

3. The MAS in China is 66, which means that China is a masculine society. As it is described from the data, lots of Chinese are sacrificing their family and leisure time to jobs. A good example is there are lots of farmers in China especially the youths leaving their home to the bigger cities in order to earn more money. I have to say this is not a good phenomenon. However, as China is still developing, this situation will be improved in a visible future.

4. With 30 UAI (Uncertainty avoidance) in China, we consider more about truth than law. To some degree, it is true. HOWEVER, I am not quite agree that we are comfortable with ambiguity just because out language has many ambiguous meanings. I think the ambiguity in Chinese language is not from language itself but from our history and our culture. Therefore, I have to say there is no obvious relation between these two.

5. I was surprised when I saw China scores 118 in LTO (long-term orientation). Our society virtue is highly influenced by Confucius who was one of the greatest thinkers and created the Confucianism. You can find that there is lots of schools and classes are teaching Confucianism in China. We hope our next generation can well inherit our valuable culture.

We have good side and bad side in China, same as every country. I value the effort we are making to change better and the hope of our future. Tomorrow will be better in China, I always believe. 🙂 I really hope to hear your idea about the culture difference between your country and China. Feel free to share with me.

It is late at night.

But now I am still in the “Help Library” where there are lots of hard studying students struggling for their homework maybe exam around me. I just finished making one poster for a competition game. This job really reminded me some valuable thing in my life…
